Summer Speech Camp

Summer Speech Camp 2012

The dates have been set for camp:

Mon. June 18th - Thurs. June 21st,
from 9am -noon.

Hey, Speech Team

You are officially invited to attend the 1st annual FHS speech and debate summer camp.  Camp is scheduled for June 18th - June 21st from 9am-noon.   During each of these days, coaches will be available to help you get a jump start on next year.  We’ll have scheduled focus sessions for each day to help you work on things like movement, gestures, volume, humor, etc… and we’ll have a BBQ at my house at the end of the last day to celebrate the beginning of a new speech season.

In addition to providing focused skill tutorials, this camp is designed to give you access to your coaches and computers in order to jump-start your preparation.  For interp and memorized events, this is a wonderful time to begin selecting a topic or piece.  In short prep, you can refine your skills and discuss basic world events.  In policy debate, the topic is already available, so research and cases can begin.  In LD, Legi, and Public Forum, students can work on speaking skills, cross examination approach, and more generic research for quotations and philosophy.

We recognize that many of you have summer jobs, vacations, and other obligations. Therefore, it is not mandatory that you show up for every session or even every day.  Come when you are available.

Thanks so much for your dedication to FHS speech and debate.

FHS Activity Beliefs

FHS Activities: BELIEFS

1. We believe that people are the most important part of our programs.

2. We believe in an activity program that balances the rigor of academic eligibility with activity participation.
3. We believe that activities can teach participants how to manage time, balance obligations and prioritize tasks, as well as how to handle both adversity and success.

4. We believe in multi-activity participation and realize tradeoffs exist when conflicts arise.

5. We believe that activities participation helps foster social traits such as loyalty, cooperation, selflessness and leadership.

6. We believe that participation is a privilege, not a right.

7. We believe in the highest standard of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.

8. We believe that activities should challenge students to push themselves to their potential.

9. We believe in respecting diversity among people.

10. We believe in promoting a positive image of Flathead High School for our community.

We are the Few, Flathead

“The Few”
The easy roads are crowded,
And the level roads are jammed;
The pleasant little rivers
With the drifting folks are crammed.
But off yonder where it’s rocky,
Where you get a better view,
You will find the ranks are thinning
And the travelers are few.

Where the going’s smooth and pleasant
You will always find the throng,
For the man, more’s the pity,
Seems to like to drift along.
But the steeps that call for courage,
And the task that’s hard to do,
In the end result in glory
For the never-wavering few
